Background
On July 15, 2025, Watanabe (a pseudonym), a client from Fukuoka, contacted us for help.
The problem Watanabe faced
Watanabe had forgotten the password to a TRX wallet and spent a long time trying to recover it independently, without success. By the time Watanabe contacted us, the client was close to giving up.
Watanabe had repeatedly entered every possible combination that came to mind, losing a little more hope with each failed attempt.
Watanabe’s situation
- Asset type: TRX (TRON) wallet (balance: approximately 170,000 TRX)
- Cause of the problem: Forgotten wallet password
- Independent attempts: Repeated attempts over a long period, all unsuccessful
- Password recollection: Remembered the general rules, but was unsure of the exact combination
- State at the time of the inquiry: Close to giving up
- July 15, 2025
Watanabe contacted us and signed a service agreement
- Mid to late July
Created a communication group, organized the password rules, and deployed computing resources
- Late July to mid-August
Continued testing, but could not identify the correct password
- August 25, 2025
Revisited the password details with the client and recovered it just eight hours after rebuilding the candidate combinations
Technical recovery process
Stage 1: Service agreement and organization of password rules (from July 15)
Immediately after signing the agreement, we created a group chat to establish a direct communication channel with Watanabe. We asked detailed questions about the habits and rules used when setting passwords.
Using the information provided, we built an initial database of candidate passwords and deployed computing resources to begin the recovery process.
Stage 2: An extended period of testing
A standstill
Our computing resources ran continuously, testing and ruling out candidate combinations one after another.
Despite an extended period of testing, we had not succeeded.
This usually points to one thing: a mismatch between our understanding of the password rules and the way the client actually created the password. Continuing to add computing resources would simply consume more resources in the wrong direction.
Stage 3: Returning to the starting point and rebuilding password combinations (August 25)
On August 25, 2025, we decided to pause and discuss the password details with Watanabe again.
This interview went into greater depth. Beyond simply asking what the password might be, we explored the circumstances in which it was created, personal habits, frequently used words, and fixed patterns the client might not even have been aware of.
Key adjustments
- Reorganized our understanding of the client’s password construction habits
- Revised our previous assumptions about character order and separators
- Adjusted the logic for combining base words with numbers and symbols
- Rebuilt the candidate password database, prioritizing the most likely combinations
- Used the latest U.S. cryptanalysis technology to accelerate testing
Successful recovery
August 25, 2025 — after rebuilding the password combinations
Password recovered in just eight hours!
With the right direction, results can come quickly. After more than a month at a standstill, it became clear that the issue had been our approach, rather than the computing resources.
Lessons from this case
The most noteworthy part of this case is not the complexity of the technology, but the fact it demonstrated: password recovery is not simply a contest of computing power; understanding people is key.
Why revisiting the conversation matters so much
- Even when clients cannot remember a password, they remember who they were when they created it
- People’s password habits are highly consistent; the key is asking the right questions
- When the direction is wrong, adding computing resources only accelerates resource consumption
- Pausing to reassess at the right time is more valuable than continuing blindly

Client testimonial
“I kept trying on my own for a long time, but every error message seemed to tell me, ‘This money is no longer yours.’”
“By the time I contacted them, I had honestly almost given up. Signing the agreement felt like giving it just one final try.”
“More than a month passed without results, and I thought it would end in failure again. But on August 25, they reached out and said they wanted to discuss the password details one more time.”
“That interview was especially thorough, with many questions I had never even thought about. Then, that very evening, I heard that they had recovered the password.”
“What impressed me most was their willingness to go back to the beginning and start again, instead of forcing their way down the wrong path. That is true professionalism.”
Key factors in the successful recovery
